Get off the couch!
More than 30,000 active participants attended the 10,000 steps program
One of our first projects - and a huge success - in the health care sector was the 10,000-step program for the Siemens Betriebskrankenkasse (SBK) a good ten years ago. The insurer wanted to encourage members of the company and other interested parties to get more exercise in their everyday lives and take better care of their health.
"According to the WHO, insufficient exercise is responsible for the loss of 8.3 million life years in Europe every year."
In order to develop the application, we first defined user roles and complex processes - such as registration, pedometer ordering, diary, "wake-up calls" and individual recommendations, as well as the display and maintenance of running patterns. In addition, the "10,000 steps" should also be applicable in teams. We had strict data protection guidelines, had to perform load tests and wanted to provide a good "user experience".
"People are moving less and less - this is leading to the spread of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and respiratory disease. According to the WHO, these diseases are responsible for a large proportion of premature deaths in Europe."
Women used the application mainly to do something for their health. For men, it was important that they could measure their daily performance and that the distance covered was displayed. Many people used the program to get moving again at all - for example, after a long period of illness. Overall the program was so successful that SBK extended it by several months.
